J. U. Cox, Died January 11, 1912.
Mrs. J.U. Cox, Died Feb. 21, 1911.

Word was received by Mills county friends this week of the death of Johnathan U. Cox, a former well known resident of Indian Creek township at Puyallup, Wash., where he had gone a couple of years since to live near his daughter, Mrs. Dr. Whitnall, formerly of Hastings.

The death occurred last Thursday, January 11.

Mrs. Cox died February 21 of last year and Mr. Cox never seemed to rally after her death but steadily declined in health until the end arrived.

Mr. Cox was born in Oswego, New York, in 1830. He came to Grand River, Iowa, in 1846 and in 1848 located in this county, where he has spent the greater part of his life.

He was united in marriage with Miss Ambrosia Morse, July 12, 1857, and they trod life's pathway together until her death last February, or nearly 54 years. To them were born six children, all of whom are living on the occasion of the golden wedding anniversary, July 21 1907 at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Wm. R. Whitnall in Hastings all were at home to celebrate with them. The children are: Victor, Ed and Eugene and Mrs. Lillian Boland of Alton, Kansas, Mrs. Zulla Bower of Northboro, Iowa and Mrs. Minnie Whitnall of Puyallup, Wash.

They spent the greater part of their lives in this county, moving to Puyallup, Wash., a couple of years ago with their daughter Mrs., Whitnall where they remained until death called them.

They have many friends in this county who will remember them and who will sorrow over their passing.
