Rozenboom, Donald D. 1936-2008

Donald Dean Rozenboom was born on November 30, 1936, near Sully, Iowa. He was born to Gybertus and Carrie Stouwie Rozenboom.

Don graduated from the Sully Christian Grade School in Sully and attended Pella Christian High School in Pella, Iowa.

He enlisted in the Armed Forces of the United States in December of 1959 and served in the U.S. Army until September of 1960.

Don was married to Mary Lou Van Wyngarden and to this union two daughters were born: Barb and Jan. Don was employed in Prairie City, Iowa for several years. He then became a charter bus driver.

On June 29, 1984, he was united in marriage with Darlene (Fuller) Van Rees. “Boomer’s” last gainful employment was with the Pella Community Schools in Pella. “Boomer” worked as a custodian at Pella Community High School and Webster Grade School and retired as a school bus driver in 1999. His retirement was spent enjoying camping and fishing.

On Wednesday morning, December 24, 2008, he passed away unexpectedly on arrival at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella, 24 days following his 72nd birthday.

Surviving are his wife, Darlene; his two daughters: Barb Rozenboom of Altoona, Iowa and Jan (Dean) Van Ryswyk of Monroe, Iowa; and five step-children: Rita Moneysmith of Pella, Mark Van Rees of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Judy (Michael) Clark of Pella, Carol (Louie) Floden of Pella and Christina (Leon) Groenenboom of Port Orange, Florida. Don leaves two grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, eleven step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild.

Of his original family he leaves the following sisters and brother and their spouses: Jeanetta (Gerald) Dykstra of Prairie City, Iowa, Robert and Alvada Rozenboom of Bussey, Iowa, Anna Rae and Lloyd Van Hemert of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and a brother-in-law, Donald (Geraldine) Samson of Newton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Carrie Rozenboom; an infant sister, Beverly Jean Rozenboom, his sister, Geraldine Samson, two brothers, Jerry Rozenboom and his wife, Ruby, and Virgil Rozenboom, and a brother-in-law, Gerald Dykstra. Don was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pella, Iowa.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery at Pella
