Belt, Alice L. (Burress) 1934-2009

Alice Lou Belt was born October 14, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Woodrow Burress and Alice (Toulouse) Burress.

She was raised in SE Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School. Following high school, Alice worked for an insurance company in downtown Des Moines.

On March 18, 1960 she was united in marriage to Roscoe Earl Belt, Jr. In March of 1970 the couple moved their family to Pleasantville. Alice stayed at home with the children in addition to running the Pleasantville Tap, which she and Roscoe owned for many years.

In their retirement years, Roscoe and Alice operated Roscoe’s Cabinet Shop. They built high-quality custom furniture and cabinets until Roscoe’s death in 2003.

In her spare time Alice enjoyed collecting and planting a large garden every year. She also enjoyed visiting with her many friends and customers at the cabinet shop. Her greatest love however, was her family – including her dogs: Daisy, Tiny and Annie.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Alice passed away on Monda
y, December 21, 2009 at the Kavanagh House, in Des Moines, at the age of 75 years, 2 months and 7 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, David Michael, husband, Roscoe and her brother and his wife, Jim and Donna Burress.

Those left to honor her memory include her children Danny Belt (Deb) of West Des Moines, Ruby Kissinger (John) of Pleasantville, Robin Zavodsky (Jerry) of Pleasantville, Rebecca Oehler (Merlin) of Holmen, Wisconsin and Ruth Belt and fiancé Louis Cusack of Chugiak, Alaska; 9 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Bea Powell (Richard) of Des Moines and Ruth Fetters (Darrell) of Carlisle; brother, Bill Burress (Barbara) of Pleasantville and her dogs Daisy, Tiny and Annie.

Burial: Elm Grove Cemetery
