Ronald Lee “Moke” Dack was born February 3, 1930 in Chariton, Iowa the son of John H. Dack and Cornelia Arlene (Nicholson) Dack.

He was raised in Kirkville, Tracy and Attica, graduating from Attica High School. Following high school, Ron was asked to try out for a minor league baseball team, but was called to serve his country before the try-outs. He served in the United States Navy for 4 years and was honorably discharged on July 28, 1954. Ron then returned to Iowa and attended Barber School in Des Moines. He owned and operated a barber shop in Bussey for many years and then moved to Des Moines after selling the business. Moke stayed in Des Moines for a couple of years and then moved to Knoxville and operated a Barber Shop in front of Fortune’s, in Knoxville, until his retirement in 1995.

Moke was an avid baseball player, he played ball in the Navy and throughout his life. He followed softball and attended the State Softball Tournament every year; he never made a reservation as the same motel held his room every year. He also loved farming and worked on several local farms through the years.

Moke also enjoyed attending country music shows and spending time with his family and friends. He was also active in the Masonic Lodge and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He was a generous and fun loving person, and many people will remember his favorite expression, “It’s your nickel”.

He passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 79 years, 2 months and 25 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
