Landsperger, Phillip E. 1925 - 2009

Phillip Eugene Landsperger was born March 25, 1925 in Rex 5, Monroe County, Iowa, the son of Roy and Lena (Caulk) Landsperger.

He was raised in Monroe County and graduated from Hiteman High School. Following high school, Phil went to work for Hoch Construction as a lineman at the rural electric cooperative.

He then served in the United States Army during the end of WWII and the start of the Korean War.

On December 23, 1950 Phil was united in marriage to Jennie Toigo at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Fr. Albers officiating. To this union four children were born: Roy, Phillip, Linda and Michael. Phil eventually went to work for Iowa Power & Light where he retired as a foreman of a line crew in 1985.

In his spare time, Phil liked to hunt, fish and listen to country music. He was also a faithful member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Phil passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 84 years and 8 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, son, Phillip Wayne and his wife, Jennie.

Those left to honor his memory include his sons, Roy (Nila) of Otley, Michael (Casey) of Knoxville; daughter, Linda (Terry) Shelford of Knoxville; grandchildren, Brian & Laura Landsperger, Aaron & Meredith Shelford, Megan Landsperger, Jacob Weldon, Matthew Landsperger and Jared Landsperger; 2 great-grandchildren, Griffyn and Morrigan Landsperger; his special friend, Phyllis Williams of Albia and many other family members and friends.

Burial: Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, IA
