James Charles Metcalf was born August 27, 1936 in Knoxville, Iowa, the son of James Ceril and Lola Christine (Andrews) Metcalf.

Jim farmed with his father near Pleasantville until his father passed in 1977. He and his mother then moved to Knoxville where he helped out by mowing yards and scooping snow. In 1996 Lola moved into the nursing home and Jim went to live at the Marion County Care Facility. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors and toy cars. Taking trips or just going for a ride in the Care facility van were also things that Jim enjoyed. He loved family gatherings, always looking for someone to tease a little bit.

Jim passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 23 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry.

Jim is survived by his brother, Norman Metcalf of Carlisle; nieces, Teresa Miller of Norwalk, Christine Metcalf of Pleasantville, Cathy Evans of Johnston, Melissa Metcalf of Des Moines and Melinda Randolph of Harlan; 3 great-nephews along with other relatives and many friends.

Burial: Greenwood Cemetery Rural Marion Co.
