Helen Grimes was born April 13, 1925 in Mahaska County, Iowa the daughter of Cornelius Bambrook and Anna (Boender) Bambrook.

Helen was raised in the Albia area and graduated from Albia High with the Class of 1943. Following graduation she worked in the U.S. Ordinance Plant in Ankeny. Helen later returned to Albia where she worked for the People's Bank.

On August 30, 1949 Helen was united in marriage to James Edward Grimes in Albia. The couple lived in the Albia area, Buxton, and in Fairfield for one year before moving to Knoxville in 1964.

In her spare time, Helen enjoyed quilting and flower gardening. She was active in the First United Methodist Church, the U.M.W. and circle. Her greatest joy was family; she cherished her husband, children and grandchildren. Helen will be remembered as a loving and caring person who never said a bad word about anyone.

Helen passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 30 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Grimes, Jr. and three brothers: Cornie, Jr., Harold and John Bambrook.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, James Grimes, Sr.; sons, Larry (Shirley) of Knoxville and Bill (Peggy) of Pleasantville; three grandchildren, Chad Grimes (Rhonda) of Knoxville, Tracy Curren (Steve) of Polk City and Mike Flowers of Ankeny; great-grandson, Camden Curren; a brother, Paul Bambrook (Carol) of Bakersfield, California; sister, Marilyn Davis (Richard) of Ottumwa and two sisters-in-law, Lorna Bambrook of Des Moines and Joyce Bambrook of Eddyville.

Burial: Graceland Cemetery, Knoxville, IA
