Jeremiah (Jerry) Winfield Libby, 80, loving husband, father, dear friend to many, died peacefully surrounded by family on October 15th 2008 at The Hospice Comfort House of Pella Iowa.

Jerry was born on September 4th, 1928 in Des Moines, Iowa. He went to Valley High School in West Des Moines Iowa and graduated in the class of 1946. He then went to serve his country on the USS Comstock.

Jerry came back to West Des Moines where he met his lifelong partner, Mary Brick, and they were married at Saint Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines on April 26th 1952. This marriage produced 2 wonderful children James and Susan.

Jerry and the family resided in Des Moines from 1952 to 1972 where Jerry held many positions with Iowa Power and Light. The family moved to Knoxville Iowa in 1972 where Jerry was promoted to Southeast Regional Technician responsible for design and layout of new distribution lines, street lighting, and new customer connections. Jerry continued to increase his role within Iowa Power and Light until he retired in 1987 as a regional engineer.

Jerry had many loves in his life. He loved woodworking, fishing, golf, railroad history, and dancing with his honey, Mary. Jerry also loved to kid and laugh often. Those who knew Jerry “The Bullfrog” Libby best recognized him as a true gentleman and a reliable, generous, and loving person.

Jerry is preceded in death by his father, Rex Arden Libby and mother, Geneva (Silvey) Libby.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary (Brick) Libby, a son, James Libby and spouse Denise of Knoxville, Iowa, a daughter Susan (Libby) Wellman and spouse Mark of Fayetteville Arkansas, 3 grandchildren: Heather (Libby) and spouse Shawn Whittington, Ian Libby and spouse Connie, Cara (Libby) and spouse John Readout.
