James Lewis Rees was born April 11, 1945 in Knoxville, Iowa to James Arthur and Alberta Maxine (Stokes) Rees.

He was raised in the Pleasantville area graduating with the Pleasantville class of 1963. On February 26, 1965 he was united in marriage to Barbara Messamaker in the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville.

Jim farmed in the Pleasantville area and also drove truck for Mike Brooks Inc. and Jacobsen Transportation. Raising and showing Champion Shorthorn Cattle was a passion of Jim's. He was a past member and leader for Our Union 4-H Club and helped run the chains during the Pleasantville High School football games. He enjoyed camping with his family and friends and was an avid Hawkeye and Nascar fan. Spending time with family was what Jim cherished most. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren.

Jim passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 63 years, 6 months and 7 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law Gail Johns.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter, Shelly (Don) Peffers of Pleasantville; sons, Clinton (Steph) Rees of Altoona, Aaron Rees of Terra Haute, IN, Kevin (Patty) Rees of Knoxville; grandchildren, Kris and Tyler Peffers, Ashley, Hayden, Kyle and Kaylee Rees; sister, Roberta Johns of Osage Beach, MO.
