Lila Lavon Gilderbloom celebrated her eternal birthday on Thursday, August 14, 2008. She was 87 years, 6 months and 8 days.

Lavon was born February 6, 1921, near Attica, Iowa the daughter of Roy Thomas and Bonnie (McCorkle) Bingaman.

She was raised in Marion County and attended Swan Elementary School, graduating from Pleasantville High School with the Class of 1939.

On June 15, 1940 she was united in marriage to Lester Beech “Blackie” Gilderbloom. To this union two children were born: Dixie Anna and Lester Gene. Lavon and Lester worked together in Blackie and Blondie’s Variety Store. They were also part owners of Gilderbloom’s Grocery Store.

Lavon had many interests; she loved music – especially at church when she would sing with Frenchie Gilderbloom and Etha Moore. Her home was filled with piano and organ music. She and Blackie also loved to dance, and as Blackie commented, “We danced halfway around the world to Josephine.” Lavon also had great fun bowling with girlfriends in Knoxville. She also golfed in her younger years.

She was active in her church and taught Sunday school for years. Lavon was an excellent cook; famous for her pecan and banana pies. Above all else, Lavon and Blackie’s home was filled with a love of family. She had a deep and abiding faith in the Lord and a love of all mankind and God’s creatures.

Lavon was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lloyd W. and Arlos C. Bingaman and her husband, Lester Beech “Blackie”.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Dixie Kraftschik (Bob) of Pleasantville and Lester Gene Gilderbloom (Jeanie) of Pleasantville; six grandchildren: Rebecca Anne Bashara MacDonald (Scott), Thomas Alexander Bashara (Kim Salter) and Cherie Renee, Mallory Jean( Jason), Whitney Alyse and Lucas Aaron Gilderbloom; five great-grandchildren: Surreal Hawthorne and Inti Bashara-MacDonald, Mason and Bennett Bashara and Micha; her sister Etha Juanita Moore of Pleasantville; sister-in-law, Vivian Bingaman of Oregon; nieces, Margie Mix, Rose Mary Anderson, Judy Krewson, Jaynee Gilderbloom, Karen Wagner and Sonja Kester and many other family members and friends.
