Phyllis Marie Weldon was born May 31, 1936 in Sigourney, Iowa the daughter of Frank James “Jim” and Laura Josephine (Baker) Moore.

She was raised in Sigourney and as a young woman, she moved to Texas. In the 1950’s Phyllis moved to the Knoxville area. She worked at Continental Overall Factory for a few years and then went to work at the Knoxville V.A. Medical Center.

On September 22, 1979 she was united in marriage to Homer Weldon. She was a cook at the V.A. for 30 years, retiring on May 31, 1996. Phyllis started working at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum in 1999; she thoroughly enjoyed her co-workers and visiting with all the sprint car fans.

Phyllis was a people person, she enjoyed making new friends working in her church and volunteering for Hospice of Central Iowa. For years, she had a large garden and would can at the end of the season. She was an excellent seamstress and would knit and cross-stitch also.

In her retirement years she loved to travel with family or friends. Her greatest joy in life was her family, she loved cooking big meals or having cookouts with the family, which were always followed with visiting and playing cards.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 85, in which she had held several offices, the First Baptist Church, of which she was a Deaconess and Hospice of Central Iowa.

Phyllis passed away on Friday, August 8, 2008 at her home at the age of 72 years, 2 months and 8 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Frank Moore; husband, Homer Weldon in 1986 and a step-son, Melvin Weldon.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughter Sharon Spaur (Larry) of Pleasantville, son Doug McMillan (Sue) of Oskaloosa, son Mark McMillan (Elaine) of Tracy, step children; Jerry Weldon (Sheila) of Knoxville, Jo Heigele(Terry) of Grainvalley, MO, Dee Alexander (Bounce) of Harvey, daughter-in-law, Shirley Ellison (Ray) of Unionville, sister Pat McMillan (Russ) of Knoxville, brother, Dan Moore (Joan) of Cedar Rapids, 3 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild,15 step grandchildren, 22 step great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

Cemetery: Graceland Cemetery
