Robert Leland Wallace, age 78, of Hamilton, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center, in Des Monies.

Robert was born on April 23, 1930, in Marion County, Iowa to Lewis and Katherine (Waisner) Wallace. He went to school and graduated from Albia High School class of 1948. After High School, Robert entered the United States Army and served for two years.

After Bob returned from the service he worked heavy equipment construction, Hormel in Ottumwa, Firestone in Des Moines, and later the Des Moines Post Office. In 1962 he became the postmaster for the Hamilton Post Office. Robert managed the post office for 16 years, before becoming postmaster of the Lovilia Post Office. Bob was Lovilia Postmaster from 1978, until his retirement.

After his retirement Robert owned, operated, and was active in B&W Auto. He was also a member of the American Legion, Howard Cessna Post #136 of Albia.

Robert is survived by his son, Rob Wallace and his wife Renee of Bussey; four grandchildren, Rhianna, Ross, Rebecca, and Reese Wallace. Bob is also survived by one sister, Helen Flahive of Ottumwa; and one brother, James Wallace of Albia.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Katherine; one brother, Ted Wallace; and two sisters, Ruby Clark and Florence Campbell.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:30A.M., Saturday, January 24, 2009, at the Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton, Iowa with Dick Klobnak officiating. Burial will follow services, with military rites provided by the Howard Cessna Post #136 of Albia. Robert’s family will gather at the Winfield Funeral Home one hour prior to time at the funeral home and procession to the Hamilton Cemetery.

Memorial visitation will begin at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 23, 2009 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia. Robert’s family will be present from 6 to 8:00 P.M., Friday evening at the funeral home.
