Bernice Marjorie Knust was born on March 18, 1921 in rural Marion County into the Germantown Community. She was one of three children born to Lola Belle Borchert and Theodore Adolph Albert Knust. Bernice was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Lacona. She attended Horstman rural school and graduated 8th grade. According to Bernice’s diary, she helped with chores on the farm, enjoyed playing with her brothers and cousins and participated in many church activities.

As a teenager, Bernice went to work at a café in Knoxville. She met and later married Charles Morton Myers on September 24, 1947 at St. Paul Lutheran Church near Lacona. To this union three children were born. The couple made their home in Knoxville; becoming members of the Trinity Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the Ladies Aide Society. Bernice also spent a short time working at the overall factory in Knoxville before she had children. She became a full time homemaker when Patricia, Theodore and Randall were born. Theodore was taken to heaven at birth. These children were her joy and the love of her life. Bernice taught them the value of hard work and a clean house! The family cleaned the church together on Friday evenings while the children were growing up. The entire family remembers Bernice’s talents as a cook; making many delicious family dinners.

Later in life, Bernice made her home at Park Lane Village where she enjoyed nearly every activity they offered. Here she made many friends-both residents and employees. She loved playing the games, cooking and listening to the programs and stories. She was often heard bragging about what good workers they were and how they took such good care of her. She also appreciated her church family and their many visits and prayers.

Bernice passed away on Monday, November 3, 2008 at Park Lane Village at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 17 days.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, infant son, and two brothers, Dean and Corvin Knust.

Those left to mourn her passing are two children, Patricia Lynn Bieber of Poulsbo, WA and her husband, Pete and Randall Clair Myers of Knoxville as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
