Roy W. Brummel, the son of Walter and Johanna Kruseman Brummel, was born Monday, May 12, 1919, near Leighton, Iowa. On May 31, 1941, Roy was united in marriage to Marian Leroy at Lancaster, Missouri, and she died March 8, 1976. From January of 1943 to October of 1945, Roy served his country in the United States Army. He was employed by the Rolscreen Company (now Pella Corp) for over 20 years, and retired in the early 1980's. On June 25, 1977, he was married to Mary DePrenger at Oskaloosa. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa.
On Saturday, April 21, 2001, Roy died at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa, at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 9 days.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Brummel of Oskaloosa; 2 granddaughters: Rhonda Welch and Brenda Young, of Oskaloosa; a great granddaughter: Faith Welch; a stepdaughter and her husband: Claudia DePrenger and Michael Levin, of Denver, Colorado; a step granddaugther: Michelle DePrenger-Levin (and her husband: Zeth Lietzau); 2 brothers: Ernest Brummel of Branson West, Missouri, and Melvin (& Ruth) Brummel of Leighton; and a sister and her husband: Joan and Marion Van Hal of Pella.
Besides his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Patricia Young; and 4 brothers: Raymond, Floyd, Lester, and Earl Brummel. The funeral was held Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa, Iowa, with Reverend Michael Crouch officiating. Interment will be in Forest Cemetery, Garden of Benediction, Oskaloosa, Iowa with Graveside Military Rites by the Oskaloosa American Legion & V.F. W. This is a Bates Funeral Chapel Service.
