MRS. BENJAMIN VANBUSKIRK

Martha Jane Demorest was born in Passic N.J., Feb. 18, 1841 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. W. Harrell on Dec. 16, 1921, having reached the age of 80 years, 9 months and 28 days.

Her girlhood was spent in Passic and on Dec. 24, 1858 she was united in marriage to Benjamin VanBuskirk. They moved to Prairie City, Ill., in 1865 and four years later came to Madison county where they lived on a farm three and a half miles south of Winterset for 20 years. They then moved to Grand Island, Nebr., where they lived for 20 years before returning to Madison county. Upon their return five years ago, they made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Harrell.

Mr. VanBuskirk preceded his wife into the eternal land by only 32 days. Mrs. VanBuskirk leaves to hold her in fond memory, the daughter, Mrs. Harrell, and one son, Thomas of Long Beach, Calif., and a large circle of friends. She was a devoted wife and mother, and through her trials and sickness she was uncomplaining, always thinking of the welfare of others, rather than her own.

Funeral services were conducted at the home on Dec. 18th by the pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
