Jeri “Jerbear” Abell/Southwick, 38, of St. Charles, formerly of Creston, died Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Celebration of Life Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2025, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Services will be livestreamed. Pastor Mark Walker will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery. The Luncheon to follow the service will be at Lakeshore Golf and Country Club in Afton. Open visitation will be 2-7:00 p.m. Sunday, with family receiving friends 5-7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the family. Online condolences may be made at powersfh.com.
Jeri Lynn Abell Southwick was born June 28, 1987, in Lincoln, Neb., to John Ray Abell and Debra Lynn Draper. Jeri was baptized as a child at the First Christian Church in Creston. Jeri attended school in Creston and was active in band, playing the clarinet, and graduated from Creston High School in 2005. While in high school she worked at A&G and Pine Valley as a waitress and bartender, meeting lots of people and she loved sharing a prank or a joke with them all. After high school she attended SWCC’s nursing program but put this on hold after obtaining a job with the State of Iowa as state supervisor for IVES. Jeri worked part time at The Garage in Indianola as a waitress while also making sure to be active in her kids’ activities, she enjoyed being artistic and was a Nebraska Huskers fan and a true crime mystery show fan. Jeri was a member of the Decatur City Restoration Branch.
Survivors include her significant other of 6 years Cale Driskill of St. Charles; her mother, Debbie (Ben) Moffitt of Creston; her father, John (Lisa) Abell of Harlan; two children, Greysen and Burke Southwick; three sisters, Jami Abell of Afton, Devin Abell of Creston, and Amy Lawr of Creston; grandmother, Catherine Latimer; her nieces and nephews Sophy and Konner Fletchall, Kasen, Kyler and Kamryn Abell; cousins, Douglas Velliquette, Jr. and Amanda Schultz; aunt and uncle, Michelle and Rob Schultz; mother and father-in-law, Mark (Brenda) Walker of Cummings; along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Gerald and Loreen Erskine, Roger Draper and Donald and Jean Abell; along with her aunt and uncles, Mike and Karen Abell and Richard Draper.
