Service Held for F. McAllister, 81

Services for Francis J. McAllister, Sr., were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at the Fisher Funeral Home in Van Meter. Mr. McAllister, of Booneville, died at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines on June 30, following a long illness. He was 81 years of age.

He lived on farms at Booneville for 76 years. He was born at Grimes on Nov. 23, 1888.

He served in WWI in Detachment 1352, Demolition group and later with the 4th Infantry in France. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 411, of Booneville and had 50 years of continuous membership. He was a graduate of Waterloo Business College.

Rev. James Whittaker officiated at the service. Robert G, Fisher was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Dennis Young. Casket bearers were E. E. Cushman, Robert Harvey, Dolan Hiatt, DeLois Allen, Francis Allen and Jimmy Reimann. Burial was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.

He is survived by his widow, Alice; a son Francis J. Jr. of Booneville; two daughters, Ruth Young of Ventura, Calif., and Mary Swanson of Perry. Also two stepsons, Russell Lander of Booneville and Harold “Bill” Lander, of Berwick. Also 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Also four brothers survive; William of Boone; Harry of Tacoma, Wash.; Floyd of Brooklyn, Ia.; and Clarence of Lake Elmo, Minn.
