Gary Richard Phillips, son of Richard Phillips and Alice (Sankey) Phillips was born October 12, 1944, in Winterset, Iowa and passed from this life Sunday, July 21, 2024 in Des Moines, Iowa at 79 years of age.
Gary grew up on his family’s farm near Truro, Iowa. He graduated from Interstate-35 High School with the class of 1963. He married Kathryn Diane Blumer on February 23, 1973, at the Truro Congregational Christian United Church of Christ. They were blessed with four children, Michael, Shannon, Jason, and Angie.
Gary was a farmer who loved farming and raising cattle. He loved his wife dearly and his family was most important to him. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild on the farm. Gary was a member of the Truro Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a hardworking and loving man, who will be greatly missed.
Those relatives who preceded Gary in death were his parents, Richard and Alice Phillips, and brother Terry Phillips.
Gary leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Kathy Phillips of Truro, son, Michael (Cori) Phillips of Ames, son, Shannon (fiancé Crista) Phillips of Truro, son, Jason (Dani) Phillips of Truro, daughter, Angie (Mack) Vanderbeek of Waukee, grandchildren, Allyson Phillips, Grant Phillips, Nathan (Ellie) Phillips, Katie Phillips, Bella Reilly, Madi Reilly, Lilly Miller, Annabelle Van Meter, McKenzie Phillips, Charlie Phillips, Alex Vanderbeek, Aubrey Vanderbeek, Owen Vanderbeek, and Eli Vanderbeek, great grandchild, Lincoln Phillips, brother, Larry Phillips of Truro, as well as other relatives and many friends.
Gary's family will greet friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Thursday evening, July 25th at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 Friday morning, July 26th at the Truro Congregational Christian United Church of Christ.
Interment will follow in the Field Cemetery.
