Suzi Bonham (Meadows) DeHart went to be with Jesus on August 4, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Suzi was born in Galax, Virginia on May 16,1953 to Ryan and Alfred Meadows.
She was a resident of Wytheville, VA where she resided with her loving friend and husband, Rick DeHart. Rick remembers her as a wonderful wife who enjoyed their time together camping, hiking, and fishing. They also loved cooking and creating unique food dishes with one another.
Suzi was an advanced equestrian whose love of horses began at an early age. Her daughter Ginnie remembers her talking about a stable where she rode as a young child, and jokingly shared how she spent more time trying to catch a horse than riding it! Her daughter Alyson will always treasure the instruction she received from her mom growing up riding horses. In her final weeks, horses continued bringing Suzi joy and comfort.
She and her best friend, Jeanette Cowden, raised their children together. She was a second mom to Jeanette's daughter Hunter.
Suzi enjoyed reading. Literature inspired her to create lovely works of poetry which her daughters’ treasure today. She also had a passion for golfing and swimming, and was a lifeguard for four years. She enjoyed flying all over the country with her children, giving them many memorable experiences.
Her voice is one to be remembered. Her twin daughters JJay and Sara, have fond memories of Suzi praising the Lord, blessing others by singing at nursing homes and churches.
Suzi instilled the value of a hard work ethic and the beauty of strong relationships in her children. She will be remembered as a strong, fun, loving and charismatic wife, mother, and friend, who could light up any room she walked into.
Suzi was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ryan Bonham Meadows and “Punky” Alfred Clifton Meadows, JR and grandson William Jo Vestal.
Suzi is survived by her husband Rick Dehart; children: JJay Vestal (Jon Vestal), Sara McCarter (Scott Poole), Virginia “Ginnie” Decker (Jake Decker), Alyson Decker (Jason Decker), Whitaker Musick (Anastasia Musick) and step-children: Amanda Musick Armstrong and Matthew Musick. She is also survived by one sister, Patricia “Patti” Glenn Meadows Pardue and brother Alfred “Al” Clifton Meadows. Suzi leaves behind a legacy of 14 grandchildren: Lindsey Vestal, Van Vestal, Ryan Vestal, Hannah Poole; Rachael, Taylor, Tristan, Jorja, and Morgan Decker; Justin, Caleb, Sophia, and Michael Decker; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
It was Suzi's wish that her family remember her privately. There will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Refuge, Winterset, IA.
