January 7, 1950 - April 10, 2024

John R. Rogers was born Jan. 7, 1950, in a Des Moines, Iowa hospital (because Winterset didn’t have one) to Clella and John Rogers. John lived in Winterset through his high school years.

Life threw him an early curve ball when our dad passed away May 26, 1959. Our mom insured that John had every opportunity for growth that any other boy with a father had. On June 4, 1965, Mom married our step-father, Charles (Chuck) Cade. He was a blessing to our family.

John attended electronics school at Area 11 Community College in Des Moines. He traveled to Colorado, Wyoming, and Virginia during his working career; always in the electrical trades, and earned certification as a master electrician. John’s working career ended when a fall off a roof resulted in a broken back.

John was married, adopting his wife’s five-year-old son, Timothy Michael. Two daughters were soon born, Julie Renee and Christie Renee. The marriage ended in divorce.

As a single man, John lived in Hopewell, Va., for over 25 years. One of his joys in the summer was to mow his lawn on Saturday afternoon, get cleaned up, and drink an icy cold beer while sitting on his deck. John had a wonderful circle of friends who sought his guidance and respected his judgment.

On Nov. 11, 2021, John moved to Spokane, Wash., to live with his only sibling, Olga Belle Trunce. It was wonderful! He quickly got acquainted with most of our mobile home community during his frequent walks.

In November 2022, John was diagnosed with recurrent cancer of the throat. He passed away at home, April 10, 2024. He is survived by his sister, also by his niece, Ginger Peterson, and several great nieces and nephews. John was a quiet soul, a quiet Christian who loved his Lord and Savior.

A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, June 22, at noon, in the Winterset cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
