Ruth Irene Jones, 94, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at Marietta’s Place in Manchester, Iowa.
She was born on January 29, 1929, in Earlham, Madison County, Iowa, the daughter of Glenn and Hazel (Bell) Clague. She was born and raised in the area and graduated from Winterset High School in 1947. After graduation Ruth worked at an insurance office in Des Moines where she met her future husband.
On September 2, 1951, Ruth was united in marriage to William “Dean” Jones in Winterset. Two daughters were born to this union. In 1971 they moved to Manchester. Ruth worked as a receptionist at the Delaware County Hospital and the ASCS office before working as the Delaware County Deputy Recorder until her retirement.
Ruth was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed traveling with Dean, sewing, playing cards, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. Ruth enjoyed going to her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren’s activities. She most enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her daughters, Paula (Larry) Cole of Manchester and Marla (Ed) Wulfekuhle of Delhi; five grandchildren, Kelly (Kim Steffen) Cole, Sara (Barry) Eike, Travis (Jen Palmer) Cole, Mikaela (Larry) Troester, and Brianne Wulfekuhle; eight great-grandchildren, Lexi and Carley Eike, Hannah, Kourtney, Madison, and Keegan Cole, and Layla and Dru Troester; and her nieces and nephews, Pam Vinson, Brian Clague, Kevin Clague, and Candi Dombrock.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean Jones in 2015; one sister, Mary Belle (Chuck) Day; one brother, Thomas Clague; and in-laws, Alvin (Marilyn) Jones, Robert (Dorothy) Jones, Leland (Peggy) Jones, and Alberta (Kenneth) Potter; one nephew, Brad Day; and one niece, Karen Clague.
