May 18, 1926 - May 18, 2024

Born on May 18, 1926 to Noble and Fern (Nicoson) Nixon in Warren County, Bonnie passed away peacefully on her 98th birthday, May 18, 2024. Bonnie lived most of her life in Madison County, graduating from St Charles High school in 1944.

Bonnie spent some time in California working at the ordinance plant during WWII before returning home and marrying Charles Downs on September 26, 1945.

Charles and Bonnie made their life on the farm outside St Charles, Iowa from that day forward. She lived on the farm for over 70 years, raising her family, cooking and baking her famous rolls, taking in ironing, raising chickens, and selling eggs and cream for grocery money. She loved working in her garden and her flower beds. Bonnie spent considerable time working at the turkey farm, north of St. Charles, which was extremely hard work. Sharing her love for reading, she worked part time at the elementary school library in St. Charles. She and Charles were very active in the Rolling Hills Camper Club and Squires and Dames Square Dance Club. In later years, they enjoyed spending winters in southern Texas. She always loved visits from the grandkids and the great-grandkids. And also a good wiener roast out in the timber!

Bonnie was proceeded in death by her parents, and husband Charles. She leaves her legacy behind with sons, Alan (Peggy) Downs of St. Charles, Craig (Lois) Downs of Boone, grandchildren Rob & Anne Downs of Des Moines, Scott & Ashley Downs of St. Charles, Melinda & Matt Brown of Granger, Kim & Grant Redeker of Boone. Great grandchildren Elena, Ethon, Eli Downs, Morgan, Blake Downs, Liam, Cooper Brown, and Charles, Stanley Redeker.

A live stream of the service will be available at kalefuneralhome.com on Yvonne's tribute wall beginning at 11:00 am, Wednesday.

Interment will be in the St. Charles Cemetery
