Eileen Meader, 54, of Winterset, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at her home in rural Madison County.
Eileen was born on April 12, 1970 in Des Moines, Iowa to Owen and Lenore (Flugum) Westman. She attended Valley High School and went on to receive her bachelor's degree from Iowa State University. On September 28, 1996, Eileen was married to Shane Meader at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Des Moines. The two were blessed to have three children, Mica, Caden and Coral. Eileen worked as a registered dietitian at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center before deciding to stay home and raise her children. Once she began homeschooling her children, she became a member of the Home Educators for Excellence in Des Moines, and the Madison Area Support for Christian Home Educators, and met many wonderful and caring people through those networks.
Eileen was a talented artist who was particularly skilled at knitting and cross stitching. Her pieces were always works of art. Eileen's passion and kind heart showed through as she used to knit hats for kids with cancer. She loved to garden and raise her chickens. Eileen was also a tremendous cook and baker. Her Iowa chocolate cake was a family favorite. Overall, she loved being a wife and a mom. Her love for the Lord was insurmountable and she was thankful for all things that He had given her in her life.
Eileen is survived by her husband, Shane; father, Owen Westman; children, Mica, Caden, and Coral Meader; brother, Eric (Kelly) Westman; nephews, Evan and Holden Westman. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lenore Westman.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2024 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale. Family will greet friends one hour prior on Monday beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Child Life Program at Blank Children's Hospital. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at caldwellparrish.com.
