Ramon Thrailkill of Rogers, Ark., died April 20, 2024, at home with the companionship of his wife of 73 years, Carolyn (Fisher) Thrailkill.
Born on May 13, 1930, in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the foster child from age 10 of Maurice and Erma (Imboden) Thrailkill, now deceased. He was a graduate of Macksburg, Iowa High School, class of 1948. Ramon joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean War, honorably discharged after three years of service at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He armed for four years, then attended Iowa State University in Ames, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and was inducted into Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society.
Ramon was a Federal Civil Service employee for 30 years; with the U.S. Forest Service in Placerville, Calf.; the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in Council Bluffs, Iowa; and the Federal Aviation Administration in Kansas City, Mo., serving as the Iowa State Engineer in his final years with the F.A.A. He retired in 1990, and with his wife Carolyn retired to Arkansas in 1991.
Ramon enjoyed repairing old cars (for his own use), rebuilding and flying old aircraft, hunting, and fishing.He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Dawn Fisher of Fayetteville, Ark.; son, Mark Thrailkill of Livermore, Colo. Four grandchildren: Amber DeBesten, Brandon Thrailkill, Rebecca Woodson, and Joshua McFall; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will celebrate the life of Ramon privately at a time to be determined.
