Dorothy Pauline Carmichael Hutchins, 88, of Redfield passed away February 24, 2024 surrounded by family at her home. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 28 at the Johnson Family Funeral home—Stuart Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 29 at 10:00 A.M. at Johnson Family Funeral Home—Stuart Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Morrisburg Cemetery. Luncheon and time of fellowship to reminisce will be held following the burial at the Redfield American Legion Hall. Everyone is invited to attend. Dorothy was born 0ctober 29,1935 in Casey Iowa to Henry and Gladys Floyd Carmichael. Later, the family moved to Redfield, where Dorothy attended Redfield school. She attained her GED later in life making her a proud graduate! She worked at various jobs throughout her life, including selling Avon where she became a Presidents club member, but the job she was most proud of was being a loving full time mother to her 4 children, and wife to husband Ed.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Ed Hutchins on Dec 22, 1952 in Winterset Iowa. This was her Dad’s birthday which was great. The December snowstorm was not. To this union four children were born: Karen, David, Larry, and Tammy. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing, camping, playing cards and loving each of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, then great great grandchildren.

She was baptized in 1968 at the Menlo Church of Christ where she was an active member. For the last 40 years she was a member of the Hickman Rd. Church of Christ in Des Moines where she taught children’s Bible classes. For over 30 years she taught World Bible correspondence courses to students as far away as Africa. She sent many Bibles to those students.

Dorothy is proceeded in death by Ed, her loving husband of over 70 years, who passed from this world 4 months and 1 day before her. She is also preceded in death by her parents; Henry and Gladys Carmichael, baby brother Donald Dean Carmichael, Sister Jane Trotter, Grandchildren Michael and Eddie Gilmer.

Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory, Brothers Albert (Mary) Carmichael of Redfield, Kenny (Grace) Carmichael of Jefferson, children, Karen (Jim) Kaufman of Adel, David (Judy) Hutchins of Linden, Larry (Wanda) Hutchins of Spirt Lake, and Tammy (Tim) Nickell of Bagley; grandchildren, Amy (Paul) Montford, Jay (Alysia) Kaufman, Robert (Melissa) Kaufman Amber Kaufman, David (Samantha) Hutchins, Jonathan (Chrisi) Hutchins, Adam (Mandi) Hutchins, Leah (Bobby) VanKirk, Molly Hutchins, Kelly Hutchins, Kyle Hutchins, Tyler (Ashley) Nickell, and Trevor Nickell; great grandchildren, Ethan, Landon, Lydia (Trent), Caleb, Nathan, Brady, Chloe, Emma , Dustin, Brianna , Journey, Alexis, Tabitha, Violet, Gwen, David, Leo, Paul, Logan, Ashton, Wyatt, Waylon, Charlie Sue, Brody, Brayton, Conrad and Octavia; and-great-great grandchild Carter, and special friends Gaylon and Rhonda Harrison of Des Moines.
