THEO. TUCKER WAR VICTIM IN PACIFIC AREA

Theodore Roosevelt Tucker, 34, electrician's mate first class in the navy Seabees, died while in the performance of his duty on Aug. 21 according to a telegram received Wednesday by his brother, James Tucker of Buffalo. He was on duty somewhere in the Pacific area.

Electrician's Mate Tucker, who was born and reared at Columbus Junction, Ia. made his home in Winterset, Ia. for about five years before enlisting in the Seabees a year ago. He was married and had two children. Prior to entering the service, he was a lineman for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co.

His mother, Mrs. W.S. Denham, lives in Columbus Junction. Two brothers, James H. and Robert F. Tucker, live in Buffalo, while a sister, Mrs. W.E. Hall, lives in Letts, IA.

Mate Tucker was in the Hawaiian islands when Buffalo relatives last heard from him two months ago. Wording of the telegram from the war department indicated he died a natural death rather than from battle injuries.

WINTERSET SAILOR WAS 34 YEARS OLD

Enlisted Last Fall; Leaves His Wife and Two Small Daughters Here

Ted R. Tucker of Winterset, E1.M.1/c in a Seabee battalion of the U. S. Navy has been killed in action against the Japanese somewhere in the southwest Pacific war area, according to a telegram from the navy department received here Monday by his wife.

Tucker had been a resident of Winterset for the past four years and was employed in a construction and maintenance crew of the Northwestern Bell Telephone company. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in November 1943 and had left for overseas duty this April.

He was 34 years of age. He was born at Columbus Junction on July 6, 1908, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel E. Tucker. He was married July 32, 1934 to Miss Eurain Earll of Washington. They lived in Washington and Ottumwa before coming to Winterset.

He is survived by his wife; and two daughters, 8-year-old Phyllis and 6-year-old Janet, all of Winterset. He also leaves his mother, now Mrs. W. S. Denham of Columbus Junction; and two brothers and a sister at Columbus Junction.

THEODORE R. TUCKER KILLED IN ACTION

Theodore Roosevelt Tucker, serving in a Seabee battalion of the navy, was killed in action against the Japanese somewhere in the southwest Pacific according to a telegram from the navy department received by his wife.

He had been a resident of Winterset, Iowa for the past four years and was employed on a construction and maintenance crew of the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. He enlisted in the navy in November, 1943 and left for overseas duty last April. He was 34 years of age.

He was born in Colombus Junction on July 6, 1910, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Tucker. He was married July 22, 1934 to Eurain Earll of Washington. They lived in Washington and Ottumwa before moving to Winterset. He worked at one time for the Iowa Southern Utilities here.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Phyllis, 9, and Janet, 7, his mother, Mrs. W.S. Denham of Columbus Junction, and two brothers of Buffalo and a sister of Letts, Iowa.

First reports indicated he had died a natural death.
