He came with his parents to Iowa in the spring of 1854, and settled on land owned by Morford Throckmorton senior. On February 5, 1874 he was joined in marriage to Louisiana Callon near Derby. They commenced home life on the farm now owned by the family. Here he spent his entire life, except for two years they spent in Kansas.

He leaves to mourn their loss his aged wife and seven children, Mary Frances Storie, of Derby; Nancy Anna Nelson, of Williamson; John Frederick, of Derby; Ada Pearcy, of Humeston; Daisy Lowe, of Derby; William Benjamin and Adam Riley, still at home in Derby. Four children preceded him in death. He is also survived by thirty grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

John was the oldest living Throckmorton in Lucas county. Eight years ago he and his wife celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

Funeral services were held in Derby Monday afternoon, October 19, at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church, conducted by Mr. J. S. Throckmorton and interment was made in the Derby cemetery.
