On Friday evening, February 10, 1899, about 9 o'clock in the evening, amid weeping friends and relatives, the angel of heath stole in upon them to carry away the spirit of Lenora Owen Mitten at the age of 10 years and 4 months. She had been in poor health for several months and all realized that it would not be long until she would leave friends on earth to join many more in heaven. Friends and relatives wait to catch the last words, know that death would soon loose all fetters that bound her to earth and separate her from her loving husband, father, mother, brother and sister, whose grief can only be realized by those who have suffered such a loss. She will be greatly missed in the community by a large circle of friends to whom she had endeared herself by her many excellent traits of character as well as by her kind and gentle manners. She had been a great sufferer for the past year, and her husband had cared for her most tenderly, sparing nothing for her comfort and never relaxing his faithful vigil by her bedside and seeming to anticipate her every wish. A large crowd was present at the funeral and the tears of love and sympathy that were shed preached a far grander funeral sermon than any spoken words could do. Appropriated funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. S. Kight at the M. E. church on Sunday, February 12, at 3 p. m. and all that was mortal of Mrs. Mitten was laid to rest in Columbus city cemetery.
