On Wednesday last, at 3 p. m., B.F. Coe, for forty years a well know resident of Louisa county, passed to his rest near Searcy, Arkansas. Mr. Coe died of a form of paralysis, having been sick for but twenty-two hours. Born, September 24, 1816, he was 81 years, 2 months old at the time of his death. Mr. Coe was born and reared in Alleghaney county, Pennsylvania. In 1840 he was married to Miss Mary McLean and seven children were born to them of whom two are dead. Those who survive him are David M., Edward E., William S., Mattie - Mrs. W. H. Helmick- and Mary. His wife died in June, 1895. In 1856 Mr. Coe moved his family from Pennsylvania to Iowa, settling in Elm grove township. Here and in Columbus City he resided till February ? when with Edward and Mary he moved to Arkansas. There, when his ? for returning were almost ?, he died. By trade Mr. Coe was a hat maker and furrier, but by inclination, a singing teacher. When younger, he conducted singing schools throughout the county. Even at his advanced age, he could start and carry any of the old tunes. In 1860, he was elected county treasurer, serving for six years. He was also supervisor for two terms and held other minor offices. Like his father and grandfather, he was a staunch and faithful member of the Presbyterian church, of which he had been and elder for twenty-five years. (missing text) Funeral services were helf on last Sabbath morning at the Central Presbyterian church, Rev. A. B. Cooper officiating. Pallbearers were Dr. I. C. ?, J. B. Reaney, P. Rasley, W. S. ?, W. H. Hughes and J. N. ER? .....The services were largely attended. .... laid to rest in Columbus City cemetery.
