The Marion Pilot Thursday March 18, 1897
ELECTA MCKEAN BURKE
Electa McKean Burke was born in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, December 26th, 1850, and died at Olin, March 10th, 1897. She was 46 years, 2 months and 14 days old, after an illness lasting more than three years, during the last few months of which, she has, with christian patience and fortitude endured the greatest sufferings. For several weeks her friends have despaired of her recovery and her weary days and nights of sickness have been only a calm waiting for her death.
Her early life was spent at her home in Marion where her father, Mr. A.J. McKean lives. Her mother died when she was quite young. She leaves her father, two brothers, a sister, husband, two sons and one daughter to mourn their loss. She was married December 26th, 1875, to Mr. A.J. Burke, who, until the last year was owner and editor of the Olin Recorder. Mrs. Burke came to Olin with her husband sixteen years ago, and have made this their home continuously since that time. There were born to them four children, little A.J. who died about 8 years ago, Harry, editor of the Belmond Bee, Ellen and Ralph. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. She died as she lived, a consistent Christian whose religion was shown by her daily life. She was of a quiet disposition, a tender and affectionate mother, whose kind heart carried her beyond her strength in deeds of goodness. Her neighbors and friends can say, as they often have said, that she was truly a good woman, such as the world can ill afford to lose.
