Kathleen Joan Faine, 67, passed away peacefully at her home following a long courageous battle with breast cancer on November 8th, 2020 with her family by her side.

Born March 27th, 1953, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Boyd and Dorothy (DeSart) Cammack. Kathie graduated from Storm Lake High School, class of 1971. She was looking forward to her 50th class reunion next summer. Kathie was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Tony Faine, on June 9th, 1974.

Kathie and Tony moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1978. She worked for over 40 years at Alliant Energy where she created wonderful friendships with her coworkers. Kathie and Tony raised two sons, Brett and Jeffrey. Both sons were in many sporting and extracurricular activities, and Kathie made sure she never missed an event. Kathie was a cheerleader in high school, and her cheerleading continued as she was always in the stands supporting Brett and Jeff in whatever crazy adventure they were pursuing.

After her retirement, her work continued but now it was as a loving Nana to her three grandchildren Stella, Henrik, and Graham. Sleepovers at Nana and Papa’s house were full of wonderful memories that will forever be cherished. In addition to being an adoring Nana, Kathie was a sister and friend to many. She enjoyed her annual sister’s trip to Florida where she created lasting memories with her three sisters while spending time at the beach. Not only did Kathie have loving biological sisters, she was blessed with so many friends who were like sisters. Road trips and shopping with her friends topped the list of her favorite things.

The fight in Kathie was second to none. For the past 29 years, Kathie made it her mission to take part in the Especially for You Breast Cancer walk. While her body fought cancer for many years, the spirit she embodied on a daily basis represented a woman full of life. She never wanted to show defeat especially while spending precious time with family and friends. She was a wonderful, selfless woman who loved her friends and family to “The Moon and Back”.

Those left to cherish Kathie’s memory are her husband Tony; sons Brett (Liz) Faine of Iowa City and Jeff (Chelsea) Faine of Denver, Colorado. Grandchildren Stella Grace, Henrik and Graham of Iowa City. Sisters Chris (Creston) Harris, Carla (Rusty) Porter, Karen (Scott) Stiles. Mother-in-law Rose Faine Blair of Storm Lake. Brother-in-law Rick Faine. Sister-in-law Paula Burns, Melodie (Jim) Tate, Dawn (John) Andersen and Brenda Faine. Step brother-in-law David (Susie) Blair, Richard Blair. Many loving nieces, nephews along with her cherished collection of friends and extended family.

She was predeceased by her grandparents, parents Boyd and Dorothy Cammack, father-in-law Fred Faine, step father-in-law Paul Blair, nephews Andrew Tate and Matthew Stiles, nieces April Roberts and Tina Harris. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Ghosh and the entire staff at the The Ghosh Center as well as Mercy Hospice for the excellent care provided to Kathie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be divided between Kathie’s three favorite charities (Anna Purna Ghosh Foundation, Blesie Tree Foundation, and Especially For You).
