Elizabeth Reitz is listed twice in this census-once with the SALES family as a servant --and then with her parents, John & Margaret Reitz.Listed with Elizabeth Reitz's in the same dwelling is her sister's family:
John Alden (Althen) 30 b Prussia
Kate Alden (Althen) 28 b Prussia
Kate Alden (Althen) 5 b Prussia
Elizabeth Alden (Althen) 3 b PrussiaI call this to your attention because Catherine (Reitz) Pfosch Althen is buried on the same lot as George and Elizabeth (Reitz) Lehman in Riverside Cem.--so she is Elizabeth's sister.
1860 Anamosa, Fairview Tsp page 44
Fred W Nichols 40 b Sachsen Kgr/Land in Bunderepublic, Saxony
Elizabeth Nichols 30 b Prussia
Maria F 5 b Iowa
Amelia F 4 b Iowa
Mary C 2 b Iowa (notice there is a Maria and a Mary)9/01/1861 F W Nichol married E. Reity (sp?)
in Jones Co., IowaIn Sept, 1894, C W Einhausen married Mary Nichols parents: F W Nichols and A E Reitz.
The sexton of the Riverside Cem. lists:
Amelia Elizabeth Nichols died 1/9/1874 7 yrs 11 mos 19days
Harry (Henry) Nichols died 1874 6 yrs 1 mo 22 days
Mary Nichols died 01/07/1874 6yrs 1 mo 22 days
We did not find tombstones for these 3 children.
The sexton MAY have only been keeping the children until someone decided what they should be buried.....I have not yet found where Fred Nichols is buried. I would expect the children to be with him.....
This leaves Maria (Mamie) Nichols who marries C H Einhausen. She later owns both the Lehman and the Henry cemetery lots in Riverside Cemetery.
You need to look at Mamie Einhausen's probate record in Scott Co., Iowa. Her death certificate should be there also. I have an obituary for Marie Eihausen. It is short and only mentions her husband and the fact they were photographers.
I will see if there is an obituary in the Anamosa newspaper for Catherine (Reitz) Pfosch Althen.
After you have "digested" anything new here, please don't hesitate to ask for further information in Jones Co.
