From my research, it appears that Luther Vandermark was married three times. The first time to Harriet “Hattie” E. Like [per son William’s marriage affidavit]; The second time to Emma Olive Dawson on March 5, 1899; they were divorced about 1902-1903. His third marriage was to Julia Howe on February 18, 1909. Emma Olive’s mother (Sarah Brazelton Dawson) and two sons went to California. Emma Olive possibly went there also and may have died in California. When her mother died in 1932, she was deceased.
The Rootsweb posting for Olive Julia Howe is incorrect. The correct surname for Emma Olive is Dawson and not Darrow.

Luke Vandermark was taken to the asylum, at Independence, last Monday, by Sheriff Mills. He has been showing some weakness of mind for some time. He is also in a rundown physical condition, and the commissioners of insanity readily agreed that he should have a course of treatment, and that he could undoubtedly be benefited. Vandermark was a bartender in a Cascade saloon previous to the time that the saloons were abolished there. His mania is mild and he readily accompanied the sheriff.Anamosa Eureka – Anamosa, Iowa
