Gail,
I'm looking for William Henry who married Martha Ann Pate, but I'll give you all that I know about the Pate family. Joseph Pate was born in 1817 in Lawrenceburgh, Ind. He married Catharine Ann (Bentley) Pate 30 Jun 1843. Joseph joined the Civil War in Oct of 1861 out of Farley, Iowa, Company F, 12th infantry Iowa. He was a private and served under General W.H. Wallace in the battle of Shiloh where he was wounded at the Hornet's Nest on 6 Apr 1862. He was taken to a hospital in St. Louis where he died June 24 1862. He is buried in Union City National Cemetery near Kansas City. He was 5'9" tall with dark hair and gray eyes.
Catharine and Joseph had the following children: William b. 1845 in believed to have joined the civil war with his father and died in Feb 1862. Mary Jane Pate b. 13 Jan 1847 Married William Archer in Jones County 6 Mar 1868. Sarah E. Pate b. 29 Mar 1850, married William Goff Delaware County, IA 24 Dec 1866. Caroline Pate b. 7 Mar 1854, married Henry W. Frey. Martha Ann Pate b. 4 Dec 1848, married William E. Henry, Anamosa, IA. Emily Pate b. 22 Sep 1857. The mother Catharine died on October 5 1857. Thirteen days after giving birth to Emily. She buired at John's Creek Methodist Cemetery in Cascade, IA. In June 1858 after Catharine's death, Joseph married Elizabeth Jones and they had a son, John Henry Pate. the Pate children were put under the guardianship of William Preston from Wyoming Township, Jones County, who had ten of his own kids, so the Pate children moved around staying with diferent neighbors. Most of the Pate Children were born in Dubuque County, IA
Your Malinda might have been a sister to Joseph?
