You may want to contact someone in Clinton County who has access to cemetery records there.
It seems that your Lafayette and "Jane" Blakely lived and stayed in Camanche township, Clinton Co., IA. They are seen on the 1880 census there with 2 children - Hiram (son) born c.1870 and Lizzie (daughter) born c.1875.
Both are seen alive in the 1900 census : Clinton County, IA - Series T623, Roll 425, Page 42, Lines 38-39. Says been married 35 years (c. 1865) and had 3 children, 2 still living. Also says in both the 1880 and 1900 census that Sarepta Jane's father was born in France.
In one database it shows that Lafayette died November 9, 1906 in Marshalltown, Marshall Co., IA and Jane disappears for the 1910 census.
If Lafayette died in Marshalltown, possibly he was visiting as I don't see him in the WPA or cemetery listing for Marshall County so would stick with Clinton County.
Hope that helps some...
