Funeral services for Erna M. Benischek, 86, Oxford Junction, and formerly of Tipton, were held June 8, 1996 at the Hayden Funeral Home in Oxford Junction, with the Rev. Ramon Booth officiating. Pallbearers were James Petersen, Thomas Petersen, William Steggall, Merlin Latare, Melvin Latare and Ronald Brinkman. Burial was in the Mayflower cemetery, Oxford Junction.

Mrs. Benischek died June 6 at the Mechanicsville Care Center, following a long illness.

The daughter of Thomas and Matilda Ahrendsen Petersen, she was born Sept. 14, 1909 near Oxford Junction. She attended county schools near Oxford Junction. She worked on the family farm until she married Sylvester Benischek Sept. 21, 1944 in Cedar Rapids.

The couple farmed in Oxford Junction township in Jones county until retiring to Tipton in 1963. In February 1984 they entered the Care Center. Mr. Benischek died in 1985.

Mrs. Benischek is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; 3 brothers and a sister.
