Funeral services for Howard L. Emerson, 73, Wyoming, were held Jan. 13, 1996 at Zion American Lutheran church in Wyoming, with the Rev. David Guetzke officiating. Pallbearers were Clifton Huston, Kenneth Jorgensen, Lou Somerville, Robert Vacek, Allen Willman and Hans Bendixen. Honorary pallbearers were Morris Somerville and Alva Husmann. Burial was in the Wyoming cemetery, with military services conducted by American Legion Wyoming Post No. 259.
Mr. Emerson died Jan. 10 at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness.
The son of Gilbert and Gladys Miner Emerson, he was born Nov. 25, 1922 in Olin. He attended the Olin schools. He worked for a Monticello area farmer and then moved to Chicago, where he was employed by the Bakelite Co. as a power shear operator. He entered the U.S. Army in February 1943 and served until December 1945.
Mr. Emerson married Elda Doden Aug. 4, 1944 in Marion. In the late 1950's he began working for Big Bill's Feed and Fertilizer Co. in Wyoming. He was a truck foreman for many years. After retiring he worked part-time for Crop Production Services in Wyoming.
He was a member of Zion American Lutheran church in Wyoming, American Legion Wyoming Post No. 259 and he served as a volunteer on the Wyoming fire department.
Mr. Emerson is survived by his wife; 2 daughters, Sandra Emerson, Burlington and Kathy Huston, Wyoming; 2 sons, Don Emerson and his wife, Anne, Wyoming and Jerry Emerson, Ft. Madison; 2 granddaughters and 5 grandsons. He was preceded in death by a son, David; his parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
