Funeral services for Floyd "Jack" Hodgden, 84, Oxford Junction, were held Feb. 27, 1995 at St. Mark Lutheran church in Oxford Junction, with the Rev. Roy Wingate officiating. Pallbearers were Glenn Merritt, Eugene McCaw, Larry Otte, Larry Hodgden, Leonard Clapp and Charles Carstensen. Burial was in the Mayflower cemetery in Oxford Junction.

Mr. Hodgden died Feb. 24 at the Jackson County Public hospital in Maquoketa, following a short illness.

The son of Vernon and Sophia Krutzfield Hodgden, he was born Sept. 25, 1910 south of Oxford Mills. He attended the Oxford Mills country school and Oxford Junction high school.

As a young man he worked on a farm near Clarence. He married Emma Otte Feb. 27, 1935 in Clarence and the couple began farming near Massillon. They soon returned to the farm near Clarence and after several years moved to a farm on the north edge of Oxford Junction. They farmed there until purchasing their farms south of town in 1942. In 1974 they retired and moved into Oxford Junction. Mrs. Hodgden died in 1985.

Mr. Hodgden was a member of St. Mark Lutheran church, the Lutheran Brotherhood, the Jones County Historical Society, the Masonic Lodge Zealous No. 435 of Oxford Junction, the "Over 60 Club" of Oxford Junction and the Jones County Farm Bureau, where he served on many committees and as president. He enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and carpentry.

He is survived by a son, Delbert, Oxford Junction; a daughter, Diane (Mrs. Dennis) Von Sprecken, Oxford Junction; 3 grandchildren; a great-grandson; 2 sisters, Verda Merritt, Clarence and Erma Clapp, Iowa City; and 2 brothers, Charles, Mt. Vernon and Wayne, Tipton. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother, Harold.
