Funeral services for W. Grover Benischek, 77, rural Olin, were held Nov. 1, 1993 at St. John's Lutheran church in Olin, with the Rev. William Peters officiating. Masonic services were conducted by Ancient Landmark Lodge 200, Olin. Burial was in the Stanwood cemetery.
Mr. Benischek died Oct. 29 at his home following a long illness.
The son of Chris and Alma Carstens Benischek, he was born Jan. 30, 1916 near Oxford Junction. He attended country school near Oxford Junction and then Oxford Junction high school. He married Irene Wigger Feb. 22, 1937 at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Stanwood.
The couple made their home on a farm near Olin. In 1945 they purchased a farm northeast of Clarence and in 1955 they bought a farm south of Olin, where they continued to live at the time of his death.
Mr. Benischek was a member of St. John's Lutheran church, Olin; and a founding member of the church building committee; a member of Masonic Ancient Landmark Lodge 200, the Appraisal Board of Jones county, the Jones County Historical Society, and the Olin Lions Club. He served as a Jones county supervisor from 1962 to 1976. He enjoyed history and antique farm equipment.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Jo Ann and husband H. Keith Dirks, Center Junction; 2 grandsons, 2 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Lester Benischek, Toddville.
