Funeral services for Darrel McCrea, 66, Olin, were held May 18, 1993 at the Hayden Funeral Home in Olin, with the Rev. Edward Frank officiating. Pallbearers were Richard Glenn, Lynn McQuillen, Mark Wiskus, Wayne Schroeder, Douglas Stiff and Marlin Wiskus. Burial was in the Masonic cemetery in Tipton.

Mr. McCrea died May 16 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids.

The son of William and Luetta Marks McCrea, he was born Dec. 9, 1926 in Olin. He attended school in Mechanicsville and then in Stanwood, graduating in 1944.

Mr. McCrea worked for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad for a short time and then entered the Navy in 1944. He served in Samoa in World War II and was discharged in 1946.

He married Janice McQuillen July 17, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. He worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission for 4 years and then hauled cream to the creamery at Lisbon for 5 years. He farmed in Hale township near Olin from 1955 to 1978 and then worked for Wendling Quarries for 3 years before retiring.

The McCreas had lived in Olin since 1988. He was a member of the American Legion-Blayney Miner Post 412 of Olin.

He is survived by his wife; 3 sons, Dale, Muscatine; Don, Olin and David, Iowa City; a sister, Donna Glenn, Anamosa; and 5 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, twin granddaughters and a brother.
