Russell James, 56, died at his home near Mt. Vernon Thursday, Sept. 21.

He was born at Cedar Rapids, July 6, 1916, the son of Frank and Dora Bleadhorn James. He graduated from the Martelle high school with the class of 1934 and was married to Ruth McCullough on June 11, 1936. They farmed in Linn county since and for the past 34 years at their present farm.

Mr. James is survived by his wife, Ruth, two children, Stanley of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Larry (Mary Ann) Meyer of Anamosa. Also surviving are three grandsons, Westan James, Barry Meyer and Chris Meyer; a brother Walter James of Cedar Rapids and a sister, Mrs. Colin (Thelma) Tschantz of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Funeral services were held at the Goettsch Funeral home with the Rev. Dale Batcheler officiating. Interment was in Cedar Memorial Cemetery at Cedar Rapids.

Casket bearers were Stanley Parker, Louis Strother, Russell Johnson, Harold Heideman, Orley Thorrington and Maurice Brannaman.
