PRISONERS BEAT EACH OTHER
Anamosa Convicts Pay
Off Their Old ScoresAnamosa, Jan. 4. – The library room in the state prison was the scene of a strenuous fistic encounter a day or two ago, when George B. Burrier, the leader of the notorious Burrier gang of criminals, and Daniel Murphy, one of Burrier’s former pals, both of whom were sent here from Clinton County, indulged in a rough and tumble fight. Not long ago an order was issued by the warden, denying Murphy access to the library, because Burrier complained that every time Murphy entered the room he insulted Burrier. A new guard, not knowing of the order, admitted Murphy to the library and a few minutes later the men were engaged in a fierce fistic encounter. Murphy was so badly used up that he was taken to the hospital, while Burrier was sent to the stone place ?. The combatants will now be compelled to wear stripes, as they have been reduced to the lowest grade.
