Fred John Novy, 75, died Sunday, February 8, 2026 at Highland Ridge in Williamsburg.

A Celebration of Fred’s life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 12 PM to 3 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg.

Fred was born January 16,1951 in Iowa City, the son of Donald and Margaret (Greazel) Novy. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and his master’s degree in audiology from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.

Fred married Jill Hellyer on May 23, 1981. They met at a class reunion in 1980. They later divorced and remained close friends.

Fred was a sales associate with Pella Windows and a longtime resident of Iowa City and Cedar Rapids and had lived in Phoenix for 10 years.

Fred was an amazing woodworker who spent a lot of time in the garage with his table saw. He created a beautiful oak desk which is a family treasure. Fred loved music, especially jamming to the Eagles. John Prine and the Doobie Brothers were also favorite. His music brought everyone together.

Fred was very involved with his children’s sports events. He was proud of their accomplishments.

Fred is survived by his daughter Casey (Matt) Betourney of Downers Grove, IL. and his daughter-in-law, Stacey Purvis of Des Moines; his grandchildren, Grace Purvis, Wyatt Purvis, Chase Betourney, Connor Betourney and Ava Betourney; his sister, Lynn (Pete) Weyer and nieces and nephews, Matt (Kelsey), Erin (Thomas) and Maggie Weyer; and his former spouse, Jill Novy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Joseph Purvis.
