Torun Choudhury, 62, of Iowa City, IA, passed away surrounded by family, Thursday, January 29, 2026, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, Friday, February 6, 2026 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with a luncheon to follow at The Kirkwood Room. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Iowa Health Care Integrated Multidisciplinary Program of Assertive Community Treatment (Impact) or University of Iowa Health Care Supportive and Palliative Care (Hospice).

Torun was born on May 15, 1963, in Karachi, Pakistan to Nizam Choudhury and Baerbel “Babs” (Prasse) Anderson. He started Kindergarten at Holy Cross High School in what then was East Pakistan, continued school in Ottobrunn, Germany, until moving to the USA. He enjoyed traveling to different places with his family, while his father was an airline pilot. When he was a teenager Torun came to Iowa City and started school at Central Junior High, then graduated from Iowa City High School, where he briefly played football. He attended classes at the University of Iowa, including Astronomy with Dr. James Van Allen, as well as Religion, German and French. He also briefly worked at the Dean’s Office. For several years he coached at the Iowa City Kickers Soccer Club. Torun enjoyed Iowa City’s cultural events and different clubs and groups like Le Cercle Francais, Stammtisch and dance groups. He could be found at different Iowa sporting events, such as Men’s Football; Women’s sports like basketball, hockey, soccer, and wrestling. Torun had a special interest in Greek Mythology.

Torun is survived by his mother, “Babs” of Iowa City; sister, Yasmin Choudhury of Orlando, FL; and many extended family members around the world.
