Trevor James Rockafellow, 19, affectionately known as “T.J.”, “Bubba”, or “Bubba James” of

Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on January 28th, 2026 with his father in a motor vehicle accident.

He was born February 3rd, 2006 to Michael Rockafellow and Mariah Shrock in Iowa City, IA. He grew up in Iowa City and Swisher, Iowa, attended Lucas Elementary and Prairie Community School District. Trevor moved to Colorado in 2024 to start working with his father, Michael, as a stagehand and to finish high school at Colorado Virtual Academy.

Trevor was close with his family. He and his dad were great friends and spent a lot of time together. If Michael needed to go somewhere, Trevor would often ride along just to spend more time with him. Trevor also cherished his grandparents, Susan Richerson, by whom he was raised, and the late Michael Rockafellow Sr. In that time, he also developed a passion for computers and video games, a skill he learned from his uncle, Andrew Richerson, with whom he had a great friendship. Trevor also leaves behind his loving aunt, Micahla Ruan, and uncle, Brandon Richerson.

Trevor was a great brother and will be missed by his siblings. As part of two blended families, he leaves behind Lillian Shrock, Jasmine Rockafellow, Emma Rockafellow, Elizabeth Metz, Colin Flynn, and Tegan Moore. Jasmine and Emma, who still reside in Iowa, loved it when Trevor came home for visits. His sisters say that he was funny and made them laugh. He was also sensitive to their feelings and knew when they just needed a friend.

Trevor was a beloved son, brother, nephew, and grandson. As a young man just starting his life, he will also be missed by his many friends he made in both Iowa and Colorado. His warmth, humor, and heart left a lasting impression on all those who got to know him.

Trevor was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Michael Rockafellow Sr. and Thomas

Richerson, grandmother Elizabeth Shrock and father Michael Rockafellow.

A funeral mass will take place on February 21, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City at 11 am. Memorial donations may be made to the family c/o Patricia Rockafellow.
