Ina Elizabeth “Beth” Clopton, 87, of Tipton, passed away on January 27, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospital – Downtown Campus.

Beth was born in Denver, Colorado on December 18, 1938 to Lawrence and Dorothy (Paddock) Auld. She grew up in southeast Iowa and graduated from Price Lab High School in Cedar Falls. In 1960 she obtained her bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa.

During college, Beth married Ed Clopton. She was a housewife and a stay-at-home mom until the couple’s divorce in the 1970’s. It was then that Beth went to work as an advanced typist and clerical assistant for several different businesses.

In her spare time, Beth enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles, embroidery and needlework as well as enjoying her cats, family and friends. She was also a member of the Iowa Yearly Meeting of Friends (Conservative.)

Beth is survived by her children: Edwin (Bethany) Clopton, Connie (Dwight) Schumm and Neil (Kerri) Clopton; eight grandchildren: Nathaniel, Preston, Magill, Lexine, Marquon, I’Tedra, Temesgen and Mitike as well as two great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Lawrence and her grandson, DeArgo.

Per Beth’s request, cremation has been accorded and a private family graveside service will be held later this year. Memorial donations may be made to Iowa Public Television.
