Thomas “Tom” Stewart, 82, of Iowa City, died Thursday, March 21, 2024. A gathering for friends and family will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Systems Unlimited, Inc., 2533 Scott Blvd SE, Iowa City, Iowa, 52240.

Tom was born November 17, 1941, in Washington, Iowa, to parents Warren and Mildred (Krone) Stewart. After serving in the United States Air Force, Tom attained a graduate degree in Accounting from the University of Iowa. He was united in marriage to Debra Katherine Brown on July 26, 1979, in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple had two children: Brad and Katie. He was a beloved husband and father. Tom and Debra lived in Washington, Iowa, before relocating to Iowa City for the last 14 years.

Tom worked at Lomont Industries in Mount Pleasant for a number of years before taking a job as a manager at Thermco. In retirement, he worked at Riverside Casino as a dealer. He enjoyed spending time with his buddies, frequently over a Hy-Vee breakfast or on the golf course. If Tom was in front of a TV, you could be sure he was watching racing, a Western, or the Iowa Football team.

In 2018, Tom was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. For the first few years it was manageable, but it had been a rough last few months. Tom’s family would like to express their gratitude to everyone that took the time to come visit him.

Tom is survived by his wife, Debra; his children, Brad and Katie Stewart; grandson, Kane Stewart; sister, Shirley Jones, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Mildred; brother, Gene Stewart; nephew, Tony Stewart; and by his brother-in-law, Bob Jones.
