Janet Sue Norbeck, 86, of Coralville passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Funeral services will be held at the Coralville United Methodist Church, 806 13th Avenue, on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM, with a light luncheon following the service. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 PM at Lensing Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Road, Coralville. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa City Community Band.

Janet, the daughter of Vilis R. Branson and Frances Louise Smith, was born on July 16,1937, in Burlington, Iowa.

Janet graduated from Muscatine High School in 1955, received her BS degree from St. Ambrose University in 1977, and her MS from the University of Iowa in 1989. She was an active member in the Iowa City Community Band, the Sweet Adelines Iowa City Chorus, and the Coralville Methodist Church.

Janet enjoyed playing her clarinet, teaching music, and traveling the world. Most of all she loved spending time with her children, and grandchildren.

Janet was preceded by her parents Vilis R. Branson and Frances Smith, her husband John Edwin, her son James Coder, and her daughter Julia Atkins.

She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Coder and John Coder, and daughter, Jeanne Coder; grandchildren Jessica Coder, Raeanne Coder, Joseph Coder, Charlie Atkins, and Jennifer Coder, and three great grandchildren.
