Bobbie Paxton, age 82, died peacefully at home on December 11, 2023.

Bobbie was born in Vincennes IN to Mickie and Art Stangle, the oldest of 4 children. She graduated from St. Rose Academy in Vincennes before pursuing and completing her diploma degree in nursing at St. Mary's in Evansville IN.

A chance encounter while mini-golfing led to meeting the love of her life, Albert Paxton. They were married on February 8, 1964, at the Old Cathedral in Vincennes.

Bobbie and Al were blessed with three daughters. She was also blessed with many friends as she and Al relocated multiple times during his career.

As the girls grew up, Bobbie returned to her nursing career. Her loving hands and caring spirit made a difference to many.

Upon retirement, she made even more friends when they traveled full-time by RV throughout the US and Canada. They eventually settled in Iowa City where she volunteered for Iowa City Hospice and at the Crisis Center.

She was an avid writer. One of her stories was published in the Iowa City Press Citizen on 12/11/12 and beautifully describes how she wishes to be remembered:

She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Al Paxton, by daughters Jeanne (Scott) Berglund, Julie (Dennis) Bennett, Kate Paxton (Bruce Bidle), by grandchildren Ann (Kirby) Koch, Eric Berglund (Libbey Held), Kevin Bennett, Sarah Bennett, Adam Bennett, and Paxton Ellis and by great-grandchildren Ellie and Cece Koch. She is further survived by her sisters Judy (Charlie) Pangburn and Mary Kay (Bill) McAdams as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mickie and Art Stangle, and by her brother Jerry Stangle.

The family would like to extend incredible thanks to the staff at Legacy Pointe Senior Living, Iowa City Hospice and Dr. Jason Wilbur for the excellent care Bobbie received.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 16 at 10:00 am at the Newman Center in Iowa City. A visitation/luncheon will follow.
