Ronald Anthony Rublaitus, 85, formerly of Sandusky, Ohio, and Olmsted Falls, Ohio, died in Coralville, Iowa, on December 9, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Ron was born in Toledo, Ohio, to Tony and Elsie (née Brongel) Rublaitus. He graduated from Macomber Vocational High School in 1956 before joining the U.S. Navy. He served as a radio repair technician aboard the USS Grand Canyon and did several tours in the Eastern Mediterranean. While serving in the Navy Reserve, Ron joined AT&T and worked in many roles, such as lineman and eventually operations supervisor.

Ron married Grace Kajtaniak in 1961. Ron and Grace were married for 36 years, had three children, and made their home in Sandusky, Ohio, until Grace passed away in 1997. Ron married Janet Cook in 2000 and they were together until Janet passed away in 2005. Ron eventually moved to the Cleveland area where he enjoyed meeting regularly with his Breakfast Club, going fishing, and eating at his favorite Italian restaurant, Aldo’s. He moved to Coralville, Iowa, in July 2023 to be near family.

Ron was an avid Ham Radio operator (call sign W8OTJ) and regularly attended swap meets and Hamfests. He was a member of the Erie County Conservation League where he participated in shooting competitions.

Ron is survived by his son Dale (Leanna) Rublaitus of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; son Dennis (Shelley) Rublaitus of Coralville, Iowa; daughter Deb (Bill) McCarthy of Burlington, Massachusetts; and grandchildren, Anthony (Jasmine) Rublaitus, Hannah Rublaitus, Angela Rublaitus (Shawn Miller), Dan McCarthy, Lindy Rublaitus, and Luke McCarthy. He is also survived by his sister Laraine Pollock and special friend and companion Barb Callahan.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, wife Grace and second wife Janet, and his brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Gary Kajtaniak and Melvin and Dolores Kaitaniak.

A private funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 13th, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Coralville, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will be held in Sandusky, Ohio, at a later date and burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Toledo, Ohio.
